Abstract
RA is a systemic inflammatory disorder of a chronic nature that is
characterized primarily by the of involvement of synovial joints.
Study of hearing function disorders in RA is the aim of this study
in order to evaluate hearing function, to detect the type of hearing defect
and to find out the mechanisms responsible for such impairment in
Egyptian RA patients.
The study included 40 RA patients. They were randomly recruited
from the internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation clinics,
Menoufiya University Hospital in the year 2009 2010 . The diagnosis of
rheumatoid arthritis was made according to American college of
rheumatology revised criteria for the classification of RA. The study also
included 20 control subjects matched in the age and sex with patients.
