Abstract

This study aims to study the critical thinking among senior nursing students at
faculties of nursing in Port- Said and Cairo. A descriptive comparative study was
used. The total sample includes 308 students in both Faculties, II S from Port- Said
Faculty and 193 from Cairo Faculty. Data were collected by using The California
Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI). It is consisted of 75 items. The
study results revealed that, most of senior nursing students in both faculties were at
ambivalence level of CTD. However, none of them had negative disposition. There
is no statistical significant difference between levels of critical thinking in both
faculties, The highest mean score of characteristics in both faculties was
inquisitiveness; while, the lowest mean scores were open-mindedness and truth
seeking for both faculties. Moreover, moles had higher percentages than female
regarding self-confidence, systematicity, and analyticity, these differences were
statistically significant. However, students had 20 years or more recorded higher
percentages regarding analyticity and self-confidence this difference was
statistically significant. Improve practicing of instructional methods that engorge
CT, nursing staff must he model as critical thinkers and training staff and student
about CT and how to practice its dispositions and skills effectively were
recommended
