Abstract The experiments of J.B.Bousingault; a French agriculturist; in ١٨٣٤ revealed the important chemical constituents of both plants and soil.By about this time, Bousingault also proposed that legumes fix nitrogen in soil. Bousingault’s thinking on the role of legumes in soil fertility was substantiated by Beijernick; a Dutch scientist; in ١٨٨٨ who discovered that bacteria in root nodules of legumes now called Rhizobium are causative agents in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen.Microorganisms convert bound phosphates into forms such as superphosphates and rock phosphate into forms which are easily assimilated by plants. The U.S.S.R. microbiologist introduced a product called ”Phosphobacterin” containing cells of Bacillus megaterium var. phosphaticum to increase soil fertility and seed germination (Subba Rao,١٩٨١).Trichoderma harizianum occurs widely in nature soil substrate and it´s commercial formula has been used because of its ability to compete with phytopathogenic fungi and produces toxins (Baby,١٩٩٨). Cultivated Faba bean is used as human food in developing countries and. |
