المستخلص

Grains are basic food crops of vital importance to the majority of population in Egypt. The percapita consumption of grains in Egypt IS estimated at 37 percent of the total percapita food consumption. Food grains are therefore of particular importance not only as food but also as feed for animals.
Within the economic reform policies, the agricultural production and marketing policies are heading towards market driven forces. This represents a new phase with significant implications on the agricultural industry both in the short and in the long runs. As the objective of the new policy is to free agricultural economic decisions, this will give birth to new institutions that will contribute efficiently to agricultural economic development. These institutions had not been given the opportunity to function under the Government control over agriculture. These institutions must be provided with facts and information about the b.asic features of the agricultural sector structure, in particular, the features of the agricultural marketing sector.
The objectives of this study are twofold:
CA) to shed lights on the agricultural marketing structure for grain crops in Assiut Govornerate including:
1. Identification of marketing institutions and organizations,
2. Description of marketing channels, services, functions, and problems.
It IS hoped that the achievement of this objective will eventually determine the main features and characteristics of the market structure which constitutes the basis for agricultural reform policies under free market conditions.
