Abstract The present study was carried out to investigate: a) the different factors affecting IVM of equine oocytes and b) the ability of the in vitro matured oocytes to be fertilized in vitro using fresh equine semen. A total of 442 oocytes were collected from 408 ovaries she donkey and 50 oocytes were collected from 20 ovaries of mares obtained from slaughterhouse of Giza Animal Zoo. During the course of study, the number of follicles was counted on the surface of each ovary, and then the number of follicles/ovary was calculated. The number of recovered oocytes was counted per trial and the number of oocytes/ovary was calculated. The recovery rate was determined by dividing the number of recovered oocytes over the number of follicles counted in equine ovaries. Number of oocyte/ovary was also estimated. The recovered oocytes were classified according to the appearance of cumulus cells into excellent, good, fair and poor. |
