Abstract

Faba bean response to phosphorus and potassium ferti-lization were studied during two successive growth seasons
1987 and 1988. The experiments were conducted on the
sandy calcareous soils of El-Ghorieb Experimental Farm,
Assiut University. The aim of these experiments were to
,
find out the best levels, doses, time and methods of plac-
ement of superphosphate and potassium sulphate applied to
faba bean plants.
Two field experiments were conducted during each growth
season; one for phosphorus and the another for potassium.
Phosphorus experiment of the first growth season included three levels of P20S (0, 32 and 64 kg/fed). Each level was applied in four methods of placements (Broadcasting,
Broadcasting + Mixing, Banding, and Banding + Mixing).
Half number of the experimental plots was sprayed with a solution containing 200 ppm each of Fe, Mn and Zn as chel-
ates, while the other half was served as a control. In
the second growth season the same levels of P20S of the first season were again applied in bands mixed with the
first 10 cm of the soil surface in three different times
(at planting, one and two months from planting). The same
foliar spray treatments mentioned before were also applied
in this season.
Potassium experiment of the first growth season inclu¬ded three levels of K20 (0, 100 and 200 kg/fed). Each level was added either in one, two, three or four doses, starting from planting time with one month time difference between each dose. In the second season K20 levels were
0, 200 and 400 •kg/fed applied in one dose either at plan¬ting or one or two months from planting. Plants of both seasons received also two foliar treatments as mentioned before in P experiments.
Experimental design was split-split plot in all exp¬eriments. Results obtained were statistically analyzed and the analysis of variance between treatments were obt¬ained. The following is a summary of the most important results obtained.
