Abstract In the necropolis of Tuna El Gebel exists the tomb of Petosiris, the high priest of the city at the end of the Pharaonic and beginning of the Graeco Roman period in Egypt. Life of Petosiris, and his religious thoughts is the aim of the present study. The texts of the tomb are the documentary basis of it, compared to other texts of important personalities from this period. Chapter one: Documents: This chapter is a study of the most important texts of the tomb, specially the texts in which the religious thoughts of the family of Petosiris appear, and historical circumstances of their time. Chapter two: Petosiris and his family: In this chapter the history of Petosiris and his family is studied. The dating of the tomb and the family are also being discussed. Chapter three: Political references in the texts of Petosiris, compared to other personalities of his period: The third chapter of the study is a comparison between the texts of the tomb of Petosiris and other texts related to other personalities of that period, to show how they acted in their own life towards the different historical circumstances of the period. Chapter Four: Religious thoughts in the texts: The biographical texts and other texts of the tomb reveals very important religious thoughts, some of these ideas are traditional ones belonging to the classical religious thoughts of Ancient Egypt, like some old features of the biographies of Ancient Egypt. Chapter Five: The way of God: As a special part of the preceding chapter, the ideas of “the way of god” are treated in this chapter, because these ideas worth to be treated in a separate chapter. The relation between those ideas and other individual ideas in Egypt during the Late period and before in the Egyptian history from its beginning, will be examined. |
