Abstract Sexual health may be achieved through the positive integration of personal characteristics, resulting in the successful expression of sexual nature (WHO, 1975). An adequate understanding and appreciation of human sexuality are important for the development of the physical, emotional, intellectual and social life of every person. The achievement of sexual maturity contributes much towards happiness in marriage (WHO, 1987). The main aim of this study was to assess knowledge and reactions of uni versi ty students about sexuality and sex education and to identify factors affecting students’ knowledge and reactions about sexuality and sex education. The sample was composed of 170 males and 286 females of first year university students. Data were collected using a questionnaire and through group interview of students of all faculties and institutions of higher education in Port Said governorate, except the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the High Institute of Social Services. The main findings of this study were: The total mean of knowledge of different areas regarding human sexuality was higher among males (38.7±20.8) than females (21.4±17.7). The difference between both sexes was statistically significant (t=9.34, p<0.05). |
