Abstract
This study has been carried out mainly for studying of natural di .. I d h di lid f 226R (238U) . 232Th ra ioactivity re ate to t e ra ionuc 1 es 0 a senes, series and 40K and the detection of heavy metals in North western coast of Egypt to assess the baseline of radioactivity and heavy metals to easily detect any future pollution threats for this site. Soil, sediment, plant and shore water samples have been collected using the standard sampling methods. Physical and chemical characteristics water samples have been determined. The mean values of pH Td.s (mmho/cm) and total organic matter For sediment and soil samples, texture (silt, clay and sand percentages), total organic matters and calcium carbonate contents have been determined. Gamma-ray spectrometer was used to determine the natural radioactivity in the collected samples. Graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometer was used to determine the heavy metals in the collected samples after the microwave acid digestion of the sediment, soil and plants samples.
