Abstract

1. Sixteen strains of C. ovis from different sources; br four from each of buffalo, cattle, sheep and goat, were used. These strains were compared for selecting the best one from br each species which produced the highest yield of toxin. br Strain number I from buffalo, strain number II from cattle, strain number III from sheep and strain number IV br from goat were selected. br S br 2. Different media (brain heart infusion medium, liver br heart digest medium, cooked—meat medium, peptone medium, papain digested meat medium and Soren Son’s medium) were br compared for the best yield of toxin production. Liver heart digest medium proved to be the best one. br 3. Concerning the effect of incubation period, the most potent toxin was obtained after 4—5 days.
