Abstract The opportunity for exposure of animals and man to the dermatophytes as well as the other keratinophilic fungi was estimated by mycological examination of specimens collected from 100 individuals as well as 691 apparently healthy (591) and infected (100) animals. The frequency of occurrence of pathogenic and potentially pathogenic fungi on the hair of 591 apparently healthy animals revealed the recovery of 227 (38.4%) isolated belonging to 13 genera. chrysosporium spp.(26.2%) was the most dominant species followed by Alternaria (4.4%),Scopulariopsis (2%), Microsporum (1.7%), Thermoascus (1.2%),Acremonium (0.51%),Mucor (0.68%), Trichophyton (0.51%),Cladosporium (0.2%),Fonsecaea (0.2%),Myrothecium (0.2%), Geotrichum (0.2%) and Candida (0.34%) species. |
