Abstract

Aim of this work is to assess the most commonly used methods of diagnosis of vesicoureteric reflux (VCUG & RNC) and to assess PIC cystography as a new and more sensitive method of diagnosis.
Patients and method:Voiding cystography and nuclear cystography were done in 50 patients and PIC cystography was done in 10 patients as study group and compared with control group of 10 patients.
Results: Age of the children of the study was ranging between one month to ten years with a mean of 4 years. Sex distribution was mainly female(32 girls)64% of cases and males were 36%(18 boys).
Diagnosis of Vesicoureteric reflux was made in 50% of renal units by
Fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrography(VCUG) in 50% by Direct radionuclide cystography (DRC) and in 46% of renal units by both methods. Fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) missed
the diagnosis of Vesicoureteric reflux in 4% of renal units while Direct radionuclide cystography (DRC) missed the diagnosis of Vesicoureteric reflux in 4% of renal units. Diagnosis of Vesicoureteric reflux was made in 80% of cases of FUTIs and normal VCUG by PIC
cystography and no Vesicoureteric reflux was detected in control group which confirm that this technique does not induce artifactual reflux in normal individuals.
Conclusions: cystography and nuclear cystography were comparable and PIC cystography was effective in diagnosis.
