Abstract
Mediterranean sea extends, north south, from30°15’N latitude to 46°47’N and, east west ,from 5°21’W longitude to 36°12’E.The length of the sea is about 2500miles with an average width of 500 miles.its approximate area is2.52x10¹²m² the maximum depth of the sea is 5093 m in the area off the soyth-western coasts of greece.the mediterranean is composed of a number of seas separated from each other by thresholds of limited depth which act as gates controlling the quantity and quality of interchangebetween seas.
