Abstract

Electrospinning is a process that produces continuous polymer fibers with
imposed on a polymer solution or melt. Non-woven textiles composed of electrospun
In this work, we have evaluated the effects of two of the most vital processing parameters: solution concentration and spinneret diameter, on the morphology of the electrospun Poly(acrylonitrile) PAN nanofibers formed. Solution concentration and spinneret diameter have been found to most strongly affect fiber size, with fiber diameter increasing with increasing solution concentration and increasing the spinneret diameter, the average diameter of the produced nanofibers equals 106-230 run, with unifonnity of 12-21 CV% at various spinneret diameter. The increasing the spinneret diameter (0.7: 1.2mm) raises the average nanofibers diameter by 11 %. In addition, we find that the solution concentration and spinneret diameter are strongly correlated with the formation of bead defects in the fibers, the beads formations have been found disappear with higher polymer concentration and lower spinneret diameter. The nanofibrous filter fabricated by electro spinning process and it has been found that the nanofibers provide an improvement in filter efficiency through providing small sub micron pore size which captures wider range of small particles PAN polymer has been successfully electrospun into nanofibers for the use in air filter. The total pore area tends to be increased with higher polymer concentration due to the consequent increase in nanofibers diameter.
Different set-ups have been designed to fonn mass production of nanofibers mat and other possible structures (cylindrical shape).
