Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV) was first identified in 1989. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that as many as 170 million persons (represented 3%) of the world,s population, are infected with HCV. The population of Egypt recorded a heavy burden of liver diseases, mostly due to chronic infection with hepatitis C virus with an overall prevalence of antibody to HCV in general population around 15-20%. Viral hepatitis is closely associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. HCV infection may cause a benign, asymptomatic infection with an indolent course, but also progressive liver disease, namely; cirrhosis and primary liver cancer in many areas in the world Eighty eight serum samples were collected from outpatient clinic of Mansoura University Hospitals, Mansoura |
