Abstract

ABSTRACT Title: Role of some herbal plants in improvement of fertility in experimental rats This study aimed to evaluate the effect of some local herbs (Cardamom, Sidr and Calendula) in sexual hormones on male and female albino rats, in addition to their hypolipidemic effect of the leaves of herbal medicinal plants available in the Egyptian environment. Seventy white male and female albino rats were divided into 7groups male and 7groups female rats (5 rats each), all groups were fed for 28 days on experimental diet as follows: Control group was fed on standard diet.Other groups were fed on experimental basal diet with supplementation ratio with its herbs as 2.5% and 5 % respectively. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected for using to determine the following parameters: lipid profile [total cholesterol triglycerides, phospholipids, free fatty acid and HDL-c], liver functions [AST (GOT). ALT (GPT), and ALP], kidney functions [creatinine, and urea], serum minerals [Ca\،P, Mg, Zn, and I],serum iron indices profile [Fe, Ferritin, Hemoglobin and Hematocrite], detoxification enzymes [GSH, GSH-Px, GSH-Rd and GSH-t] and sexual hormones level[progesterone in female rats and testosterone in male rats]. The results showed a significant decreased in lipids profile for all treated groups compared to control in normal rats. While, HDL-c results in normal rats there were low significant differences at the levels of 2.5and 5% of cardamom compared to control in normal rats but sidr and calendula herbs showed higher significant differences at its levels. liver and kidney function showed a significant decrease in AST, ALT and ALP in titre groups fed on (2.5% and 5 %) of calendula compared to control group. All treaded group parameters revealed a significant increase in serum minerals, detoxification enzymes activity, testosterone in male rats and serum progesterone in female rats.Key words: Sexual hormones, blood lipid, cardamom, sidr and calendula.
