Abstract

Air jet spinning achieves a successful commercial implementation of fasciated yarn, having outside binding fibers wrapped around a core of parallel fibers. As far as the economic aspects are concerned air jet system is much better than the conventional spinning systems. This spinning system is more versatile compared to other open end spinning systems. The structure of air jet yam has special properties which is different from ring spun yam and rotor yam.
In this work, cotton and cottonlspandex spun yanl was produced on developed attachment, which consists of twisting unit, Compressed air supply unit and Take up unit. It can be produced yarn count up to 100. The structure of produced yam was examined and investigation or the influence of air jets design and some processing parameters, including the nozzle angle, distance between nozzle and front roller nip, nozzle pressure and take up ratio on tensile yarn properties.
from the analysis of the results. the set up for producing cotton and cotton/Spandex spun yams by using air jet nozzle was found to be satisfactory. Air jet spinning produces a real twist under slack condition. The designed nozzles are more suitable for fine count. The orifice angle and the distance between front roller nip and nozzle must be optimized to obtain satisfactory yarn tenacity. The yam tenacity increases with decreasing take up ratio and with increasing air pressure.
