The concrete filled steel tube (CFT) columns system has many advantages compared to ordinary steel or reinforced concrete systems. An analytical three dimensional model for the nonlinear elastic analysis of concrete filled steel tube (CFT) columns has been developed in order to evaluate the behavior of such columns under eccentric loading.
In order to verify the numerical model, the results of the proposed finite element model are compared with those obtained from the experimental work available in the literature as well as the results calculated using the EC4 specification, AISC/LRFD specification and ECPSC/LRFD specification.
Using the verified finite element model a parametric study is generated to represent the effect of various width-to-thickness ratio, height-to-width ratio, values and location of eccentricities on the behavior and capacity of CFT columns.
The extensive numerical studies have helped to introduce interaction curves of ultimate capacities ofCFT columns between the axial force and the uni-axial moment.
