Abstract

Patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy require careful assessment of liver function both prior to treatment and during therapy Potential interactions between the liver and chemotherapy fall into three categories Direct hepatotoxicity Worsening of preexisting liver disease, especially viral hepatitis. Alteration of the metabolism and excretion of chemotherapy drugs that rely upon the liver for their clearance due to underlying hepatic disease This study was done to emphasize that the liver of patients undergoing chemotherapy was affected by multiple factors not only the chemotherapeutic agents but also viral hepatitis e.g : HCV,HBV and CMV This study was carried out on 21 patients with hematological malignancy (leukemia and lymphoma) admitted to the hematology and oncology unit ,pediatric hospital ,menoufiya university during the period from February 2008, until August 2008.they were 12males and 9 females their mean age was 7.38 years ranging from 1.5–15 years.
