Abstract An attempt has been made to study the cathode corona when using needle-to-plate corona gap. The present work has involved a careful comparison of cathode corona in electronegative gas such as air and inert gas such as argon. A comparison of current-voltage characterizations at different pressures in the range 760 to 60 mm Hg, showed a small pressure – dependent, difference in case of argon. The reason is the notion of metastnble atoms in argon gas. In both gases all curves show linear ohm`s law regions. |
