To reduce Community Noise Exposure Limit regular noise studies have to take place to guarantee up to date inputs based on which suitable measures can be taken to decrease and limit environmental noise.
Each community has its own regulations that suit the industrial and residential requirements. Unfortunately in Egypt, no enough attention is paid to this point. A good approach would be to benefit from the current reasonable regulation favoring the residential requirements on the expense of the industrial requirements in addition to maintaining the current approach of separating the industrial regions away from the populated areas.
An introduction to noise from the industrial point of view will help in the applied noise field survey on an existing British Petroleum Oil and Gas plant located in Ras Shoukeir, Red Sea, Egypt.
Based on this noise it was obvious that Screw Compressor had a major contribution to In-Plant noise. For this reason was subjected to experimental study.
An overview on screw compressor applications, construction, materials, operation and finally noise generation gave the conclusion that Screw Compressor noise is a low frequency steady tonal type.
Screw Compressor was subjected to a laboratory study in which the sound pressure levels were measured at different cases where factors changing the resultant noise were varied. Such as acoustic insulation enclosure, inlet valve filter, filter cover and path modification.
Results indicated that the fewer are the flow directional changes and deviations from the symmetric profile in the inlet valve, the less is the noise level produced.
