Abstract Heat exchangers are efficient devices in which the process of heating or cooling occurs. The main function of heat exchangers is to provide a flow path for hot and cold fluids. They are used in a wide variety of applications as in industries, refineries, cryogenics, heat recovery systems etc. Fouling is a significant problem that influences the heat exchanger performance which is defined as the accumulation of unwanted materials on the surface of heat exchanger. In this research, we will study the thermal effect of fouling occurrence on heat exchanger using a heat exchanger design software (S&TIIex). Fouling effect can be minimized either by cleaning of heat exchanger (mechanically or chemically) or by changing the design of heat exchanger which is proven to be the most effective method of reducing fouling effect |
