Abstract Electrical discharge macgining (EDM) process leads to formation of residual stresses. this thesis examines the measurement of these residual stresses and their effect on base material. experimental procedures to measure residual stresses will be performed. both chemical method and x-ray diffraction method are used to measure residual stresses. The dependence of the machining parameters upon residual stresses formation have been studied. It is found that the higher hte discharge energy the higher the surface roughness. as the case of spark machining which the pulse current is very high which results poorer surface texture compared with wire cutting machining which have lower pulse current. and this is due to the higher the pulse current the higher heat generation the poorer surface texture. Also wire cutting machining results higher residual stresses than spark EDM and this is due to the higher the pulse on duration time the higher the residual stresses. |
