Abstract In the present study, a trial was carried out to throw a on Borne ocular d• .-Jeases prevalent among our domestic 8)’2cial reference to some surGiccl techniques which as a correction to tho;Je [1.ffectionc. In the meantime surG.ic al proc edures w re perf orr:lf.::d on eyperiment al the purposes of :- :Valuation of some surgical procedures performed for some surgical affections of the eMeball and of some simple sur~ical techniques to be performed in hospital as well as in field situation. The present study, was performed on a number of 721 nic,ll cases of different animal species suffering from a diseases, in addition to a number of 68 animals (56-donkeys, 6-sheep and 6-do~s) were subjected following experimental operations :- Different techniques for the removal of the globe and/or orbital contents. Third evelid flaps. J) Conjunctival flaps. Jubpalpebral lavage syntem. 5) Conjunctivor 10:Jtomy. Full-thickness eyelid resection. The clinical cases were subjected to full study including examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and e~ment (therapeutic and/or surgical). In certain cases - 150 - ;’colorrical exmnir::.ation Vias performed. Diff rent types of ocular dise~ses were recorded in the 1J..’he most common evelid affections recorded VJere su1conjunr:¬iVRl and eyelid abscesses, blepharitis, eyelid wound and lucera¬ions, while prolapse of the nictitans gland and eyelid tumours recorded sporadicall~. The most important affections of the excretory ptirt of the drainage syst em vJere, the granulom1,t ous sVielling of lacrimal sac in donkeys and the permenRnt obstruction of nesolacrimal duct. Acute decryocystitis wus recorded once donkey. ’l’he most common nffection of the conjunctiva WLS conjunctiv¬VJith diJferent forms. Congenital dermoids nere recorded in Corneel affections \’Icre the most illportant and common affect¬of the eye in the present study. Ulcerative keratitis was most prevalent one specially in c ttle calves. Stromal corneal abscesses were recorded in sporadic cases n sheep and cattle calves. ridocycli tis, hypherna 11nd panophthnlmi tis were thp. most common ecorded affections of the anterior uvea and aqueous hwnour Cataract was the only lens affection recorded in the present tudy. Certain cases of cataract in sheep habe a posterior - 151 - s••nechia. All clinical cases were su1Jj ect ed to some method s of conservative treatment and possible sureicul int~rferences. Trichophyton verricosum was isolated from 8u3pect~d cases of mycotic blepharitis in sheep, while AsperGillus fumigatus was isolated from cases suffering from a £ranulom~tous swelling ~ the medial canthus of the eyeball in donkeys. The results of the surgical interferences in the present study were summarised in the follo’.:ing : Transpalpebral enucleation of the eyeball is more preferable than subconjunctival one • • ~enteration of the eyeball and orbital contents is indicat d only in advanced neoplasia of the orbit • • Intraocular prosthesis exclude the disadvantage of enuclea¬tion of the eyeball and ffers a practical alternative to enucleation in the future. The third eyelid flap is proved to be an easy and highly beneficial physiolo,”icul bandage for treatJilent of corneal ulceration than conjunctival flaps. ~ation of the Jrd eyelid flap to the dorsolateral upper to be better than its fixutioL to the lateral ron conjunctival flaps have better results in treatment corneal ulceration than the oth~r types of conjunctival |
