Abstract

The aim of the present study was to measure CD14 and TLR2 expression on peripheral blood mononuclear cells
(PBMCs) in infants and children with atopic dermatitis in order to clarify their potential role in AD and univeil any possible association between the number of PBMCs expressing TLR2/CD14 and the total IgE level.
The present study included 36 children age below 5 years old of both sex, 21 children with AD and 15 healthy children.
All subjects included in this study had full history taking, thorough clinical examination including severity score and
laboratory profile including CBC, IgE, CD14 and TLR2 by flowcytometry.
The present study demonstrated non significant statistical difference between patients and controls as regards WBCs, eosinophil count, CD14+/TLR2+ monocytes %, CD14-/TLR2+
monocytes %,CD14+/TLR2- monocytes %,CD14-/TLR2-monoctes % and IgE levels.
Non-significant statistical difference was detected between female and male patients as regards all clinical and
laboratory data.
