Abstract

Organophosphorous compounds comprise the majority of the :nsecticides in current use. Because of the attractiveness of
agents in terms of their short-lived residues and minimal
in the environment, these chemicals have become of
commercial importance.
Concomitant with their more
prominent role as pesticides is an increase in intoxications with these agents. The increasing use of organophosphorous pesticides
us to study the toxic effects of parathion ethyl and ~rathion methyl on albino rats and to see if there is a relation
the dose, the concentration and the effect on the treated in the form of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition.
The results of this research demonstrate that the activity serum AChE was strongly affected with a dose of 2 mg
ethyl and 9 mg parathion methyl per kg body weight.
of AChE was observed after 30 min of administration reach its peak after 2 hours. It is ,evident in this study the AChE activity of rat’s brain possesses the most
affinity to parathion methyl, while the affinity is with parathion ethyl. On the basis of estimation of AChE in rat~, it is reasonable to say that both parathion and methyl had an inhibitory effect on activities of in both serum and cerebellum. The results demonstrate
the effect of organophosphorous pesticides correlated concentrations of paraoxon and paraoxon methyl and not
with with
concentrations of the original substances. Our results show
