Abstract

One thousand goats were examined in the narkets of Assiut Province (Assiuc, A1-Maasara, Abnotih) for dental affections and abnormalities. In addition twenty heads were bought from the slaughter house and were prepared for studying the normal and abnormal dentition. Another thirty heads were photographed and radiographed for diagnosing the abnormal structures and some dental affections.
In Institute of Surgery J.L.Universirty, Giessen, Germany another fourteen skulls of the native breed goats were examined and radiographed for the same purpose.
The lateromedial position was used for skulls and heads radiography at 50 k.V., 6 mAs and FED of 90 cm. These factors gave the best radiographs.
The radiographs were analysed for the deciduous and permanent dentition. In addition , some dimentions for the compact bone percentage, the beta angle of the mandible and the mandibular hight and length were also measured.
The ernption times of both the deciduous and temporary dentition were described both morphologically and radiographically.
The dental affections surveyed were classified into six main groups namely
fl Developmental and congenital abnormalities ,hich include rotation of the rostral teeth, diastasis dentium jaw deformities, abnormal arrangement of the rostral teeth, under development, and deep vertical enamel folds in the surface of incisor teeth.
2) Traumatic injuries, which includes fractured teeth.
3) General pathology, which includes
retained temporary teeth, enamel hypoplasia, and haemorhage of the teeth.
4) Disturbance in calcification.
5) Abnormalities which reflect disturbed maturation of enamel, which include brown teeth, chalky teeth, dental flecks and dental calculus.
6) Miscellaneus cases, such as fluorosis and broken mouth.
The most common affections surveyed in Assiut were the developrnental and congenital abnormalities (22/1000) ,followed by
