Abstract

An inverting end—to—end intestinal anastomosic was performed on 54 clinically healthy dogs at Assiut prQvince, using three different types of suture materials of the seme size namely catgut, nylon and silk, All operated dogs tollerated well the operations and healing per primum wes obtained.
Best results were obtained with the use of catgut. This was manifested macroscopically by the absence of the stitches since tile seventh day, as well as the presence of a very small sized inverted flange or its complete absence 30 days postoporat±ve. The mucosa regenerated cop1eteiy, the stitches were completely absorbed end the inflammatory phenomenon subsIded 15 days following the operation.
Ocod healing ha0 also been obtained in those animals operated by nylon. This was manifested by slight thickening at the eeat of anastomosis, absence of stenosis in 50% of cases and the escape f the suture material tonrds the lumen 30 days after the operation. icroscopical1y the mucosa regenerated completely in 60% o cases while the inflammatory phenomenon stood still for tho said period.
The worst type of healing was observed in those auirna1
operated on using silk material, This was manifested by a
