Abstract

A total of 635 samples including 100 adult hens (swabs from living and organs of freshly dead birds), 180 fresh eggs (before treatment), 240 eggs during incubation (after treatment) at 1st, 10th, 18th day old embryonated egg, 40 swabs from hatchery rooms (including 10 swabs of each top, floor, wall and water) and 75 freshly dead baby chicks including heart bloods, liver, spleen, lungs, intestines and yolk sacs.
These samples were collected from El-Akthar and El-Ahiwa farm Sohag Governorate.
The collect samples were packed in box and aseptically transfered to the laboratory without delay where they were immediately examined.
1- Adult hens, by bacteriological examination it is clear that 66 isolates including 16 species of providence, 32 Escherichia coli, 16 of proteus and 2 of Klebsiella with incidence 16%, 32%, 156% and 2% respectively.
2- Regarding to the locality from which the eggs were collected in El-Akthar farm, we found that, the isolates obtained from fresh eggs before treatment included 21 Streptococcus, 18 Staphylococcus, 6 E. coli, 2 proteus, 2 Klebsiella, 2 pseudomonas, and 3 Serratia species with a rate of 23.3%, 20%, 6.7%, 2.2%, 2.2%, 2.2% and 3.3% respectively, while after fumigation of the eggs with formaldehyde the isolates were 16.
