Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor, Zagazig University during two successive seasons, 2002/2003 and 2003/2004.
This investigation consists of two parts: First part:
Limonium sinuatuni L.:
I-A- In this part of experiment the effect of foliar spraying with (cheleate calcium at rates of 0.00, 50.00, 100.0 and 150.0 ppm), (Calcium becarbonate at rates of 0.00, 50.0, 75.0 and 150.0 ppm) and (Sodium silicate at rates of 0.00, 50.0 and 100.0 ppm) on growth, flowering and chemical compositions of leaves of Limonium sinuatum L. plants was investigated.
I.B- In this part of experiment the effect of foliar spraying with (Paclobutrazol at rates of 0.00, 25.0, 50.0 and 100.0 ppm) and (Dikegulac sodium at rates of 0.0, 250.0, 500.0 and 750.0 ppm) on growth, flowering and chemical compositions of leaves of Limoniums sinuatum L. plants was examined.
II- Helichrysum bracteatum Andr.:
II.A. In this part of experiment the effect of foliar spraying with (cheleate calcium at rates of 0.0, 50.0, 100.0 and 150.0 ppm), (Calcium bicarbonate at rates of 0.0, 50.0, 75.0 and 150.0 ppm) and (Sodium silicat at rates of 0.0, 50.0 and 100.0 ppm) on growth flowering and chemical compositions of leaves of Helichrysum bracteatum, Andr. Plants was tested ,
Summary and ”Conclusion -160-
II.B. In this part of experiment the effect of foliar spraying with (PP333 at rates of 0.0, 25.0, 50.0 and 100 ppm) and (dikegulac sodium at rates of 0.0, 250.0, 500.0 and 750.0 ppm) on growth, flowering and chemical compositions of leaves of Helichrysum bracteatum Andr. Plants was studied. Second part:
This part of study was aimed to investigate the storage of dry flowers which considered very important stage of their production cycle in the cut flower industry. Therefore, the best flower stage of development were examined by cutting of Limonium sinuatum L. and Helichrysum bracteatum Andr
1-Buds stage (when colour of petals just visible).
2-The beginning of spikelets open and flower open.
3-The full opening of spike and flowers.
Pulsing the flower in a solution of mixture of 1 glycerin and 3 distilled water at (v/v) for 48 hour at room temperature.
Hang up side down the flower stems for 15 days.
Data of dried flowers based on visual quality of human judgment and physical measurements were recorded.
1-Mean dry weight of breakage dust flower drying.
2-Number of curved penicles spike per peduncle flower.
3-The flower colour before and after drying (using colour chart judgment).
The important results which obtained can be summarized as follows:
Part I- Limonium sinuatum L.
I .A. Spraying different concentrations of cheleate calcium, calcium bicarbonate and sodium silicate significantly increased plant height compared with control plants and the best results in both seasons for this character were obtained from spraying Limonium plants with higher concentrations of calcium bicarbonate and cheleate calcium.
Spraying limonium plants with different concentrations of cheleate calcium, calcium bicarbonate and sodium silicate significantly increased i.e fresh and dry weights of leaves, as well as, fresh and dry weights of plant herb in both seasons compared with untreated plants, and the best values for these characters were obtained from spraying Limonium plants with high levels of each of calcium bicarbonate and cheleate calcium, respectively.
- Treating Limonium sinuatum L. plants with each of cheleate calcium, calcium bicarbonate and sodium silicate increased each of number of flowers stems, F.W. and D.W. of flowers stems / plant compared with control plants in both seasons. The higher value for any character was attained with higher level for any treatment.
The thickness and the length of peduncles were increased by treating the limonium plants with any level of different treatments and the increases were gradually increased by increasing the levels of any treatment.
