Abstract

Summary
During the period from May 2005 to May 2006 several diseased cases has been admitted to the veterinary hospital of the Faculty of veterinary medicine , Assiut university. Suffering from various resoiratory disorders. The reported clinical signs of these diseased cases were deprived appetite, depression, elevation of body temperature, change in respiration and sometimes increase in heart rate. Also nasal discharge, paroxysmal coughing, congestion of mucous memberanes, lacrimation, profuse salivation, and abnormal percussion, auscultation sounds were reported.
Of these diseased cases, only 75 individuals wheather adults or calves of both sexes and ages. Their ages ranged between 1 week-2.5 year.On the basis of their ages these animal were classified into 3 groups (preweaning, postweaning and adults). They were also classified according to the plan of treatment into four group,
Group A (19) : Were treated with streotopenicid.
Group B (21): Were treated with streotopenicid and copper complex.
Group C (19) : Were treated with sulphadimidine.
Group D (16) : Were treated with sulphadimidine and copper complex.
-All animals of these groups in addition were given anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, bronchodilator, antipyretic, poly-vitamins, fluid therapy.
-It has been accepted as the proposed plan that treatment were given for five days.
-Twenty healthy control animals of the same species were used as control for the work.
-Heparinized blood samples were collected from all animals, on admission, third day and the fifth day of treatment. The collected blood plasma samples were used for the estimation of values of tryptophan metabolites (Methylindole & indole), nitric oxide and superoxide dismutase.
- It was clear from the followup of treated diseased cases that there is a good response of animals towards the recovery on the fifth day. Few cases however seemed to need more than five days to complete treatment and recovery.
-Statistical analysis of the obtained data were done, mean values, standard errors, and the P values were obtained.
-For tryptophan metabolites (skatole & indole), their values were not detected in healthy animals (n=10). Their values were highly significantly elevated in diseased cases that gradually decreased by the time and course of various used treatments but not reached the control levels.
-It was clear that the nitric oxide free radical levels increased in the diseased cases with respiratory disorders. With various treatments its values reduced gradually. Diseased cases with respiratory disorders, showed also marked reduction in the mean values of superoxide dismutase that gradually directed towards elevation by the time and course of various treatments in the plasma.
-It was obvious that copper nicotinate has a promoting effect in the course of treatment used. This compound produced pronounced DROP in the mean values of nitric oxide that associated with elevation in the mean values of superoxide dismutase. This increase in mean values of superoxide dismutase denotes lung tissue healing.
–Significant reduction of nitric oxide, associated with marked elevation of superoxide dismutase were reported in preweaning suckling calves. in the third day.The change for these parameters in postweaning and adults were less marked.
