المستخلص The medicinal plants, Mentha species are of great economic importance for farmers and manufactures that should be ecologically protected against factors responsible for the reduction of yield. Insect and mite infestation is one of these factors. Therefore, the population dynamics of mites, insects and spiders associated with spearmint and peppermint plants were studied in Dar El-Ramad and Rahmi regions (Fayoum) during two consecutive years (2006-2008). Infestation degree which included two times cutting of plants were related to the effect of the prevailing temperature and relative humidity. Results indicated the occurrence of three phytophagous species, Brevipalpus obovatus, Tetranychus urticae, Eriophyes sp., one predaceous species, Euseius scutalis and one of debatable species, Tydeus kochi and various species of spiders, 6 species on peppermint and 9 species on spearmint. On peppermint plants the population of most pests was relatively high during Winter in both locations studied. |
