المستخلص

The present clinical study was conducted to evaluate the effect of diode laser therapy as a new method to reinforce anchorage by increasing bone density around anchor teeth and to compare it with traditional mechanical anchorage reinforcement as represented by the intraoral Nance appliance.
A total of thirty young adult Egyptian male and female patients, with an age range from sixteen to thirty one years were selected from the outpatient Clinic of the Orthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry, and Ain Shams University (ODAU) participated in this study.
All patients complained from skeletal Class 2 and Angle Class II div1 or div 2 relation, their treatment involved extraction of the upper first premolar to achieve a class 1 canine relation with normal overjet and overbite. All patients were treated with the same method of canine retraction.
The patients were divided randomly into two groups of 15 each.
Group I: (Nance Group) Mechanical Appliance Group
Group II: (Laser Group) Low level laser therapy LLLT Group
In the first group the Nance holding arch was chosen for anchorage reinforcement while in the second group Gallium Arsenide semi conductor diode laser with specifications of 904 nm wavelengths, energy output 30 mWatt and a frequency of 9999 Hz was used. The laser beam was aimed at the soft tissue over the root area of upper first molar region with rotatory movement for 3 minutes for three sessions every other day.
