Abstract

The study aims to assess musculoskeletal system manifestations associated with hyperlipidemia and their relations to cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
We found 5 patients (10.9%) of type 2 hyperlipidemia had arthritis (2.2% of the patients had monoarthritis, 2.2% of the patients had oligoarthritis and 6.5% of the patients had migratory polyarthritis). So, there is a significant association between type 2 hyperlipidemia and migratory polyarthritis.
There was significant relationship between type ІV and V hyperlipidemia and oligoarthritis but not migratory polyarthritis.
There was significant relation between Achilles pain, Achilles tendenitis and hyperlipidemia.
There was significant relation between xanthoma and type 2 hyperlipidemia. There were 8.7% of patients with xanthoma in type 2 hyperlipidemia.
There was relation between hyperlipidemia especially hypertriglyceridemia and pseudo-sjogren syndrome, where 8% of hyperlipidemic patients had pseudo-sjogren syndrome, 3 patients (3%) of them had also parotid gland enlargement.
The relation was significant between cholesterol level & musculoskeletal system manifestation in patients with type 2 hyperlipidemia.
There were cholesterol crystals in synovial fluid of 2 patients (4.3%) of type to hyperlipidemia.
Plain X-ray showed peri-articular soft tissue swelling, juxta-articular osteoporosis and (or) juxta-articular cystic lesions.
