Abstract

Our goal is to cast light upon the parameters of kidney – Pancreas transplantation with its different modalities, which represents a hope for diabetic renal failure patients to commit a much better life.
We decided to sail across the great progress in this interesting area with its present advances and promising future, dreaming of a friendly islet substitute – whether transplanted or biotransformed – available for every diabetic patient. One day, this may become a reality in Egypt; so the mysterious disease might be defeated – God welling . Diabetes mellitus is an important and growing problem worldwide; where diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of renal failure, for which the most ideal treatment is simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation. Islet cell transplantation is a better alternative for pancreas transplantation. Pancreas or islet transplant alone are considered with restricted indications for diabetics with sever metabolic derangements. Pre-transplant recipient and donor evaluation is mandatory to assure both acceptable recipient life expectancy and donor safety. The recipient, then, receives immunosuppression; and may encounter some complications whether technical, graft rejection, increased incidence of infection and malignancy, or systemic complications.
