Abstract In the present investigation, a series of surface active agents based on castor oil and its derived fatty acids with different polyethylene glycol chains were synthesized using different methods. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed using FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13CNMR spectroscopy. The surface parameters of the prepared compounds were evaluated including surface tension (γ), Critical micelle Concentration (CMC), Effectiveness πCMC, Efficiency Pc20, maximum surface excess гmax, minimum surface area Amin and HLB values also were investigated.Effect of ethylene oxide chain length on their surface properties was studied. Thermodynamic parameters of adsorption and micellization such as ΔG°ads, ΔG°mic have been calculated. Also, amphiophilic aggregates shape was estimated through calculation of CCP (critical packing parameter) to predict the shape of the produced micelles. Emulsion stability, Foaming power, wetting ability and resistance to hydrolysis for the prepared compounds were investigated to recommend their use in different processes. The synthesized compounds were tested for their biodegradability in river water according to Die-away test method, BOD method and also HATR-FTIR. |
