المستخلص

Most pediatric cancers are now curable with multiagent chemotherapy in combination with surgery and radiotherapy. The overall five years survival after diagnosis is now 75% for all pediatric malignancies.
One of the side effects of the use of cytotoxics is their suppressive effect on the immune system. It is believed that the construction of the immune system depends on length of treatment, type of treatment, and length of post-treatment period.
The aim of this work is to assess cell mediated and humoral immunity in childhood cancer survivors and to study the relationship between the specific defects in the immune system and the type of disease and the chemotherapeutic regimen given.
This longitudinal follow up study included 30 survivors of childhood cancer aged ranged between 2-18years with mean age 9.216.96 years with 17(56.7%) male and 13(43.3%) female who were recruited from the Long Term Cancer Survivors Clinic (LTCSC), Children’s Hospital, Ain Shams University. All patients were in remission and completed chemotherapy for at least 6 months and relapse free prior to the evaluation.
