Abstract
The aim of this work is to define an introduction to ozone therapy in medical field and to highlight the following: Methods of generation of medical ozone . Ozone’s mechanism of action and it’s interaction with living tissue. Indications, contra indications and toxicity. The efficacy of O3 therapy in Rheumatic diseases. The efficacy of O3 therapy in non Rheumatic diseases. The use of ozone for industrial applications has received a wide acceptance while its use in medicine remains controversial. The effect of ozone therapy can be attributed to the repeated acute oxidative stress that cause up-regulation of antioxidant enzymes, appearance of oxidative stress proteins and probable release of stem cells. The oxidative stress must be adequate to activate physiological mechanisms, but not excessive to cause damage.
