Abstract
For this study , twenty-four adult albino rats were used as an animal model to study the effect of chronic alcoholism (20% ethanol for 3 months) and the consequent rehabilitation (for 10weeks) on the seminiferous tubules under the bases of recent stereological techniques. the body and testis weights of each animal were recorded before killing it by intracardial perfusion of 2.5% cacodylate buffered gluteraldehyde. Four blocks of testicular tissue were processed and embedded in Epon. Half micr semithin sections were cut and sained by 2% toluidine blue. Sections were subjected to qualitative histological examination to study the morphological effects of alcoholism on the testicular structure. Stereological procedures were applied to determine the numerical density of each seminiferous epithelial cell type. Ratios between the germ cells to each other and to Sertoli cell were estimated. Values were analysed statistically for comparative significance.
