Abstract
In our study, 40 patients were included divided on two groups, 20 for each. Group A; underwent open hernial repair with mesh (Lichtenstein), Group B; underwent laparoscopic TEP repair with mesh. Follow up of patients was made in the out-patient clinic at Demerdash hospital, 10 days after discharge then once every 3 months for one year, during the year 2008.
Both groups were compared in terms of operative technique, operative time, intra & post operative complications, post operative pain, ability to walk, hospital stay, time till return to work and incidence of recurrence. Statistical interpretation of results was made which revealed that both types of repair were nearly equal in the management of primary unilateral hernia, but laparoscopic TEP was more time consuming with more difficulty.
