Abstract
This study was conducted in the Nephrology Clinic,Children Hospital, Ain Shams University during the period from March 2008 to December 2008,on 45 children,30 of them are nephrotic patients following up at the pediatric nephrology clinic,and 15 age and sex matched healthy children as a control group They classified into 3groups:
Group I: included 15 nephrotic patients in relapse before initiating steroid therapy.
Group II: included 15 nephrotic patients in remission after withdrawal of steroid therapy.
Control group: included Fifteen (15) age and sex matched healthy children.
The present study revealed that protein Z level in plasma of children with NS in relapse (Group I)(1.96 + 0.6ug/ml)
was markedly lower than other studied groups. Also the plasma level of PZ in children with NS in remission (group II) (3.05 + 0.7ug/ml) was lower than the level in healthy controls
(3.68 + 0.6ug/ml).
The present study revealed that PZ level in urine in children with NS in relapse (group I)(0.84 + 0.77ug/ml) was markedly higher than both children with NS in remission(group II)(0.21 + 0.19ug/ml)and healthy controls(group III)(0.18 + 0.18 ug/ml). Also the study revealed that no difference between both children with NS in remission (group II) and healthy controls (group III) as regarding PZ level in urine.
