Abstract The use of aspirin is always associated with wide alterations of gastrointestinal integrity and function. The most common of these alterations are epigastric distress, nausea and vomiting. Aspirin may cause gastric ulceration and exacerbation of peptic ulcer symptoms Gastrointestinal haemorrhage and erosive gastritis have been reported in patients on high dose therapy but also may occur even when low doses are administrated with the possibility of life threatening haemorrhage Isosorbide dinitrate is one of the drugs used for prophylaxis of angina pectoris and for congestive heart failure, acting on blood vessel walls causing dilatation of the venules and to a lesser extent of arterioles resulting in a fall of blood pressure This work focuses on the possible protective effect of isosorbide dinitrate against the injurious effects of acetyl salicylic acid on gastric fundic mucosa of adult male albino rat. |
