Abstract

C.perfringens represents one of the most important silent threat of the poultry production , as it considered as opportunistic M.O that normally inhabitant in the gastrointestinal tract of birds and with the presence of predisposing causes like coccidial infection and dietary stress that commonly found in poultry farms specially under intensive and semintensive system of poultry production specially that reared in the flour , these predisposing cause enhance the proliferation of C. perfringens to produce its toxin that cause epithelial damage of the intestine causing decrease of the absorption leading to decrease performance and feed conversion rate.
Therefore the aim of the present work to detect the incidence of C.perfringens in broiler farms in Sharkia Governorate in different seasons, ages and disease status, in addition to using of recent molecular technique in rapid detection and typing of C.perfringens toxin genes, also a trial to decrease the depending on the traditional methods for isolation and identification of C.perfringens by improving the ability of detection and quantification of C.perfringens directly from intestine.
A total of 232 intestinal samples (136 samples in 2008 and 96 intestinal samples in 2009) were collected from broiler farms in different seasons, ages and disease status from El Sharkia Governorate.
Incidence of C. perfringens in the collected samples was 43.38 %in 2008 and 52.08% in 2009.
