the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of thyroid autoimmunity and thyroid dysfunction in patients with type 1 diabetes melltius.
date were analyzes from 64 patients with type 1 diabetes melltius aged from2-18 years who were treated in Suez canal university hoapital antibodies to thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase, free T4 ans TSH were measured . thyroud autoimmunity was detected in 10.9% of diabetic patients (7 patients) .
patients with thyroid developed antibodies were significantly older, had longer duration of diabetes and developed diabetes later in life than those without antibodies. three patients with positive thyroid antibodies were girls, and 4 patients were boys, their ages were above 10 years, consanguinity was in 2 patients (28.5%) , family history of autoimmune diseases was detected in 4 patients (57%). Anti-TPO and anti TG antibodies were detected in 5 and 2 patients respectively.
