Abstract The aim of this study is to measure urinary leukotriene E4 levels in patients with bronchial asthma in comparison to control subjects and to define a potential role of Cys LTs in patients with bronchial asthma. The results of this study elucidated that: 1- Pollen was the most common allergen found to cause +ve skin test in patients (63.41% of cases) followed by smoke (53.65%). 2- The mean values of blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level of patients were significantly higher than that of control group. 3- The mean values of blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level of atopic patients was higher than that of non- atopic patients although the difference was not statistically significant. 4- The mean values of blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level were higher in male patients than those of female patients although the difference was not statistically significant. 5- There were positive significant correlations between blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level of patients. 6- There were no correlations between age of patients and blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level. 7- There were no correlations between duration of illness of patients and blood eosinophilic percentage, urinary LTE4 and total IgE level. . |
