> Aiming to study was undertaken to determine whether fibrinolytic activity exists in the ascites fluid of patients with liver disease and to sea whether such activity is associated with evidence of plasma fibrinolysis.
Subjects and Methods: This study was conducted on sixty- five patients with hepatitis-C positive, all of them proved to have cirrhosis, subdivided into: Group (A) cirrhosis with ascities. Group (B) cirrhosis without ascities. Group (C) Ascites without cirrhosis. On the other hand group (D) Fiveteen subjects (control group). The study included through history taking, physical examination, routine lab and coagulation profile namely prothrombin time, concentration, INR (international normalization ration), partial thromboplastin time, serum and ascitic fluid analysed for (Fibrinogen, plasminogen, D- dimmer and FDPs). Also, Abdominal ultrasound examination, upper GI endoscopy was done for all patients.
Results: The results showed (in group A) elevated D- dimmer and FDPs were found in ascites fluid in concentration that would be considered pathologically elevated if in plasma. Ascites fluid was also depleted, compared with plasma, of both plasminogen and fibrinogen. In group B showed elevated D- dimmer & FDPs in plasma while in group C, the ascites fluid had parameters consistent with fibrinolysis, whereas the plasma did not. from this result, mean that, the severity of fibrinolysis was correlated with the degree of liver cirrhosis
