Abstract : Functional endoscopic sinus surgery was introduced more than two decades ago for treatment or sionasal diseases. The success of functional endoscopic sinus surgery. the development of modern endoscopic equipment and the concept of adopting more conservative and minimally invasive surgery have aroused the interest of extending endoscopic uses to involve adjacent areas and different pathologies. endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery is considered the standard for treating ellar lesions with the ability to work on tumors in the supra. para, retro and infrasellar region under complete visual control. In the last few years, many studies have been performed describing the possibility of accessing midline skull base lesions whether ventral or dorsal using extended endonasal endoscopic technique. The future carries many premises in the field of en do copic skull base surgery with the availability of more ophisticated instrumentation, robotic assisted surgery and real time intraoperative navigation systems. Objectives: The aim of the work is to review the di lferent endoscopic approaches and techniques for manegment of lesions involving the ventral skull base and to explore the merits of this urgery and its possible future expectations |
