Abstract
In this study 233 bacterial strains and 200 fungal isolates were isolated and identified from 200 patients suffering from external ear infection. Patients were attending the E.N.T. departments of El-Minia & assiut University hospitals. The patient represented variable age groups, cultures and sex (males 52.5% and females 47.5%). According to the clinical sitting, patients were classified into tow groups. The first group was clinically diagnosed as otomycosis fungal ear infection, 142 patients . The second group diagnised as otitis externa bactrial ear infection, 58 patients. Results of mycological examinations in this study revealed that, out of the total isolated fungi, 158 were isolated from otomycosis and 75 from otitis externa. Fungi belonging to the genus Aspergillus were the commonest among the isolated fungi (58.5%), then Candida (36%) in order of their predominance. Saccharomyces cervisiae, penicillium spp. and Rhizopus spp. showed lowest incidence (2%, 2% and 1.5% respectively). Of the Aspergillus spp. Asp. Fumigatus was the most common representing 56.4% followed by Asp.niger (29.1%).
