Abstract
Randamised controlled trial has been performed in 50 patients underwent biliary operations to define the type of biliary bacteria, post-operative wound infections, and the causative organisms, the relation between biliary bacteria and bacteria causing wound infections and the effect of cefoperazone on both. Patients were allocated to one of two groups each of 25 patients, the first group who took cefoperazone and the second was the control group with no antibiotic cover. Cefoperazone was given as three doses each of 0.5 gm cefobid intra-musculary, the first was 2 hours before operation, the second was immediately before operation and the third was 2 hours after operation. Bile and blood samples were taken simulatanoualy during operation.
