Abstract The aim of this work is to: 1- Determine the symptomatological patterns of dyspeptic patients in a clinic-based study. 2- Evaluate the symptoms in dyspeptic patients versus the upper endoscopic examination findings. Conclusions The conclusions to be withdrawn from this clinic-based study are: 1- Among the dyspepsia symptom groups, the reflux like pattern is the most frequent, followed by the ulcer like and dysmotility like patterns, with the unspecified pattern being the least frequent. However, the overlap or mixed pattern is substantial. 2- There is no age or sex predilection for having any of the dyspepsia symptom groups or for having isolated or mixed symptoms. 3- Normal findings are significantly higher in the younger patients with no sex difference regarding having a normal endoscopy. 4- Among the abnormal endoscopic findings is the most frequent. 5- The sensitivity of the dyspepsia symptom groups to corresponding endoscopic lesions is low. So, the relation between symptoms and endoscopic findings is poor. |
